Visual Journaling: What is it and how can it help my kids?

by Cara Meredith

Have you ever had a conversation that looked or sounded something like this?

“How was your day at school?” Fine. “How are you feeling today?” Fine. “How’s life in your neck of the woods, sweet child of mine?” Fine.

No matter how the question is phrased, there comes a day when the simplest of questions elicits the same, standard response: “Fine.” Yet you know, because you are the parent or trusted adult in their lives, that everything is not fine.

They wear it on their face. They show it with their actions. They pout. They explode. They emote. They bounce off the walls in giddy excitement. Whatever the emotion, their bodies clearly communicate a message that goes deeper than the word “fine.”

Whatever they’re feeling, kids don’t always know how to communicate the myriad feelings alive inside them, especially if writing isn’t the first thing they turn to when it comes to processing their emotions.

Sometimes kids need to be able to express how they really feel, without having to write a single word. Sometimes kids need a visual journaling app to better understand their emotions and improve their emotional health.

Rezi is a visual journaling app that lets kids express how they really feel by creating fun, customizable characters. With more than 4,000 possible variations to capture their mood, kids ages 9-14 can easily track their emotions over time with a visual snapshot that also allows them to learn and grow as a person.

Whatever your role, Rezi helps parents, therapists and organizational youth leaders — to name a few — find easy ways to engage in conversations and deepen relationships with the young people in your life.

After all, Rezi’s approach is simple: we believe in self-expression, connection, safety and simplicity. The app allows kids to discover what they’re feeling (and what those feelings might look like) in fun, creative ways by building Rezi characters. It facilitates improved relationships with friends and family, as players start to understand themselves and their emotions better.

Because Rezi is also a hate-free and troll-free platform, kids can get real about their true feelings. They can post what they want to post, in a private space, made just for them. Finally, users can journal without having to write a single word, thereby offering an easy-to-use visual experience for youth of all ages.

Our unique visual journaling allows tweens and teens (and ultimately, grown-ups too), to see the peaks and valleys of their daily emotions. Over time, this helps young people build their confidence in their own ability to overcome challenges, and ultimately, thrive.

We don’t doubt that the Rezi app is going to change the way youth respond to and identify their emotions, just as it’s going to revolutionize the way parents and caregivers interact with the children and young adults in their lives.

Of the one-word answer, “fine,” though, that we cannot guarantee. That one may take a little more time.
